![]() She is also representative of the fact that Joshua was "babied" by his parents and was called a child by Alex not long before his death this notion is supported when Alex cuts Amnion open to see Joshua's body in the fetal position. Her form is derived mainly from Joshua's death via drowning and his love of insects and spiders, as evidenced by his collection and drawings. She may be seen as a symbol of the sins of the Shepherd family. She may also be symbolic of Alex and Joshua's mother, Lillian Shepherd however, there's not much about Amnion which supports this idea other than the fact that she is female and she has Joshua in-utero. Another view on the creature posits that she could represent Alex's guilt regarding Joshua's death. This article or section contains speculation, analysis or theories which may not be officially approved.Īmnion could represent Joshua's anger towards Alex for his death and also his desire to have Alex accept what he'd done. Finally, she can also grab Alex when he's underneath her legs, lifting him up and throwing him down without giving him a chance to break free. She can also spray her toxic bile up in the air, causing a rain of the deadly liquid. She will slam both of her arms down, which inadvertently causes them to get stuck in the floor, leaving Amnion vulnerable to attacks for a short time. Her attacks in this state are swifter and more brutal, retaining her attack pattern from her previous stage while varying it with the addition of various new attacks. When he comes within arm's length of the creature, she will sometimes leap straight up in the air and slam down, knocking Alex back if he doesn't evade the assault in time.Īfter taking significant damage, Amnion will shift her form no longer depending on her mechanical legs, she now faces forward, standing upright, using the forelegs more like arms. When she inhales and extends her face, she sprays an incredulous amount of toxic bile from her mouth that can damage Alex. She attacks both with wide, sweeping motions and vertically angled assaults with her front legs. She can take a great deal of damage before falling. Amnion's face also telescopes forward with her eyes always closed, all attached to a mechanical frame which fits back together. ![]() Another feature is a hose-like black structure that comes out of her mouth and attaches to her genitalia, like an umbilical cord however, it convulses and flows as if it has fluid circulating in it. She has no arms, and her six spider-like, metallic legs are fused into her ribs. Amnion has three pairs of breasts just above her distended abdomen. The human body is pale and bloated, like a waterlogged corpse, or a heavily pregnant woman due to give birth. He then leaves both the family ring that they both fought over and the flashlight that Alex had given Joshua years earlier.Īmnion appears as a female humanoid figure attached to a large mechanical apparatus with four legs, resembling a spider. ![]() Alex begs for forgiveness, and he finally accepts and takes responsibility for Joshua's death. After this sudden realization towards the game's end, Alex's surroundings are invaded by the Otherworld, and Amnion descends from the ceiling, initiating the final boss fight.Īfter Alex defeats Amnion, he slices her bloated abdomen open, revealing Joshua's corpse. The emotional strain from Alex's parents caused them to refuse to continue the sacrificial ritual. Alex learns that he was destined to be sacrificed, but Joshua's death ruined the ritual and broke the pact. When Alex discovers the chamber where the Order buries the sacrifices for the pact they made with their god, he recalls accidentally killing Joshua at Toluca Lake, when he tried to take the family ring from him.

Herbicides such as 2,4-D can increase cyanide concentrations in forage for several weeks after application. When fertilizing forage ground, use split nitrogen (N) applications when the total amount exceeds 60 pounds of N per acre to decrease the risk of cyanide toxicity. New shoots produced after frost can be especially hazardous.Ĭyanide content appears to be higher in plants grown in soils high in nitrogen and low in phosphorus. New shoots often contain high concentrations of cyanide. ![]() Young, upper leaves have more cyanide than lower leaves. Leaves usually produce two to 25 times more cyanide than do stems in forage grasses seeds contain no cyanide. A list of these plants is found in Table 1. However, a number of other plants can be cyanogenic. Plants with Cyanogenic PotantialĬyanide poisoning most often is associated with sorghums and sudangrass. ![]() Sodium thiosulfate, alone, is also an effective antidotal therapy for cyanide poisoning. The blood of animals affected with nitrate poisoning will be chocolate brown, compared with the cherry red of blood from prussic acid poisoning. An injection of sodium nitrite into an animal already suffering from nitrate poisoning would be disastrous. Be certain nitrates are not a problem before administering sodium nitrite. The remaining methemoglobin is converted by other enzymes to hemoglobin, which then is available to transport oxygen normally.Ĭaution: Clinical signs of cyanide poisoning and nitrate poisoning are quite similar. A simultaneous injection of sodium thiosulfate provides sulfur to convert cyanmethemoglogin to the less toxic thiocyanate, which is excreted in the urine. Sodium nitrite is injected intravenously to convert hemoglobin to methemoglobin, which reacts with cyanide from the cyanide-cytochrome complex to form cyanmethemoglobin. Your veterinarian is the only qualified individual to institute this treatment. The treatment for cyanide poisoning consists of re-establishing oxygen transport at the cellular level. Change forages or remove animals from suspected pastures until results of the analysis are returned.Do not send grains, stomach contents or blood samples. Send the suspect forage to the diagnostic laboratory for analysis. When livestock losses occur and cyanide poisoning is suspected: The mucous membranes are usually bright pink, and the blood will be a characteristic bright cherry red. Signs also may include salivation (drooling), lacrimation (runny eyes), and voiding of urine and feces. Excitement, rapid pulse and generalized muscle tremors occur initially, followed by rapid and labored breathing, staggering and collapse. ![]() Animals often are found dead.Ĭlinical signs, when noticed, occur in rapid succession. Signs of cyanide poisoning can occur within 15 to 20 minutes to a few hours after animals consume the toxic forage. ![]() Clinical SignsĬyanide is a potent, rapidly acting poison. Ruminant animals (cattle and sheep) are more susceptible to cyanide poisoning than nonruminant animals because the ruminal microorganisms have enzymes that will release cyanide in the animal’s digestive tract. Cyanide inhibits oxygen utilization by the cells in the animal’s body. Once plants containing cyanide have been consumed, the toxin rapidly enters the blood stream and is transported throughout the body of the animal. Plant cells can be ruptured by cutting, wilting, freezing, drought, crushing, trampling, chewing or chopping. These cyanogenic compounds are in epidermal cells (outer tissue) of the plant, while the enzymes that enable cyanide production are in the mesophyll cells (leaf tissue).Īny event that causes the plant cell to rupture, allowing the cyanogenic compound and the enzyme to combine, will produce cyanide. Sorghums and related species readily accumulate these compounds. A number of common plants may accumulate large quantities of cyanogenic compounds. ![]() Starting in 2015, Chris attended the Computer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas for five years running. Traffic system: In a computer-control traffic system, traffic light is one of the best examples of the circular queue.CPU Scheduling: The operating system also uses the circular queue to insert the processes and then execute them. But in case of a circular queue, the memory is managed efficiently by placing the elements in a location which is unused. As we have already seen that in linear queue, the memory is not managed very efficiently. Memory management: The circular queue provides memory management. The circular Queue can be used in the following scenarios: ![]() The deletion in a Queue always takes place from the front end. deQueue(): This function deletes an element from the Queue. The new element is always inserted from the rear end. enQueue(value): This function is used to insert the new value in the Queue.Rear: It is used to get the rear element from the Queue.Front: It is used to get the front element from the Queue. The following are the operations that can be performed on a circular queue: What is a Circular Queue?Ī circular queue is similar to a linear queue as it is also based on the FIFO (First In First Out) principle except that the last position is connected to the first position in a circular queue that forms a circle. The efficient approach to avoid the wastage of the memory is to use the circular queue data structure. It is not a practically good approach because shifting all the elements will consume lots of time. There is one solution to avoid such wastage of memory space by shifting both the elements at the left and adjust the front and rear end accordingly. The rear is at the last position of the Queue if we try to insert the element then it will show that there are no empty spaces in the Queue. In the above array, there are only two elements and other three positions are empty. So, to overcome such limitations, the concept of the circular queue was introduced.Īs we can see in the above image, the rear is at the last position of the Queue and front is pointing somewhere rather than the 0 th position. If the rear reaches to the end position of the Queue then there might be possibility that some vacant spaces are left in the beginning which cannot be utilized. ![]() ![]() There was one limitation in the array implementation of Queue. The Pharcyde were already a known quantity bordering on cult stardom when Labcabincalifornia, their ’95 followup to their ’92 debut Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde, added a more reflective and downcast air to their previously comedic repertoire. Let’s start with a bridge - one between the insurgent wave of early ’90s West Coast indie and all the potential dynamism, insight, and creativity that underground hip-hop would cultivate by the decade’s end. If you fuck with Open Mike Eagle, billy woods, Noname, Boldy James, the Koreatown Oddity, or anyone else in that stylistic neighborhood, songs and artists like these are the reason why. ![]() Not just in a sense of how many of these artists are still putting out records, but how many artists out there are carrying on these concepts while keeping it underground 20-plus years later. ![]() Underground hip-hop predates 1995, but it’s the second half of the decade where things evolved so rapidly and definitively that we’re still feeling the repercussions today. The story of underground hip-hop - or indie rap, or backpack rap, or whatever your favorite messageboard’s preferred subgenre/euphemism/epithet of choice was - isn’t that different in its essence from other underground permutations of popular music, whether you’re talking about free jazz or punk or thrash or any other scenes that cropped up to fill a void that needed a few more noisy weirdos.īut underground rap took off right when college kids had the time and access to pore over all this stuff on the nascent World Wide Web, and combine that with fast-moving independent scenes and a bumper crop of indies - earlier-established entities like Delicious Vinyl, Mo’ Wax, and Solesides, plus later ’95/’96-established labels like Fondle ‘Em, Rawkus, Rhymesayers, and Stones Throw - that seemed to have a foot in every major city. Often these support structures could wind up carrying an artist further than anyone expected, whether it was a one-off gem of an album or the start of a career that’s still in the midst of putting out must-own records. And if the disillusionment hinted at by the likes of Common and DJ Shadow wasn’t the dominant reaction, it was still powerful enough - and deeply rooted enough - to help build up a support structure for artists just far enough outside mainstream America’s Will Smith comfort zone. So if you wanted to work at establishing a sort of alternative, independent, distinctly underground style of hip-hop, you had to really need it. You could also make hip-hop without having a lot of money, and develop the kind of work ethic where what money you make would just go back into the music, but that increasingly seemed like a sucker’s option when the economic bubble of the late ’90s record industry could seemingly provide all the yacht rides and Moët bottles anyone’d ever want. And whatever you consider to have ended it - the coast wars, 2Pac and Biggie’s deaths, the rise of the South, the “shiny suit era,” the prevalence of R&B crossover - it was generally agreed upon by 1996 that if hip-hop sucked that year, you could just say “it’s the money” as the reason and get at least a few nods of recognition. Then again, Common released his first big signature hit in ’94, and it was about how hip-hop was starting to lose its way, so there was already a sense of fragile legitimacy being threatened from all sides by the time the Golden Era ended. Didn’t matter if your jam of the year was “ Time’s Up” or “ Regulate” or “ Sabotage” - if you lived through ’94 and thought “this is the end of an era” at the time, you were probably a pessimist. The hip-hop Golden Era is generally recognized to have started in the late ’80s and runs through the mid ’90s, which covers the massive creative stretch where album-length ambitions, advances in sampling tech, and heated competition for mixtape and airplay positioning could be found in the majors, hip-hop imprints, and indies all at once.Īnd even in the waning years, there was gold: 1994 was the year that gave us the first albums by Nas, OutKast, and The Notorious B.I.G., career-prime material from Gang Starr, Redman, and Scarface, and cult classics from Organized Konfusion, Artifacts, and Gravediggaz. The catch about Golden Eras is that we don’t always know when we’re living in one - we only know when it’s already over. |
